Welcome to our gardens.
Nancy Bamberger always gardened, eventually having a career as a Horticultural Therapist. She began to convert what was once a pasture to gardens with perennial flowers, shrubs and a few trees in 1990 when we moved to Apex. She first planted a Southern Magnolia, which has since grown to the magnificent tree you may see, and we have continually planted since then.
“From envy springs inspiration” is a famous quote that I made up after continually being envious of butterflies in Chicago Botanical Garden; of Hellebores and Cyclamen and more in Nancy Goodwin's Montrose Garden; of Gaillardia aestivalis variety winkleri in Dr. Dennis Werner's home garden; of many native perennials from Messinbrinks Nursery; of Dale Batchelor's and John Thomas' Swiftbrook Gardens; and of Allison Armour's Aqualens that stunned me in Cindy and Gregg Pacchiana's Longview gardens.
From Fields to Paths
In 2011, having too much grass to mow and desiring gardens that Nancy could still enjoy, I chose to make paths (wide enough for two people) and fill in with more perennial flowers and shrubs; a water feature; and the Aqualens. This led to wonderful associations with Ed Sessoms of Urban Oasis nursery; Brie Gluvna Arthur, a landscape designer; and Matt Tuttle, a water scape designer; among others.
What envy will inspire me next?
We hope you enjoy these beginnings, which will grow better with each passing year.
